Under 9’sĀ  Yellow team By Stuart Milne (roving reporter)

Match Report – 19/09/2015

With the sun shining and the dew glistening the Fletcher Moss Rangers U9’s continued their fine start to the season on Saturday with a display reminiscent of any of the great Barcelona teams.

The coaches, who had spent the morning discussing the game plan over a double sausage and egg mcmuffin and a brew, sent the team on to the field brimming with confidence having completed three successive victories and after the first minute saw the scoreline read 1-0.

From kickoff the ball was won in the middle of the park by Malcolm who threaded the ball out to the right. Cravagan took a touch before sending a majestic pass into the area and with a first time finish Smith bagged his 8th of the season.

The fine football continued in the first period. The speed and skill of Igiehon was too much for the Mersey Vale’s right back and before the first 20 minutes has elapsed he’s bagged himself a brace and the team went into the break 5-0 to the good. Had it not been for a fine performance from the goalkeeper it may have been more.

Changes were made at the start of the second period with Levy being brought on at left midfield. A more stubborn Mersey Vale set their sights on a resurgent 2nd 20 however Dunne and Udekwu-Amata had other ideas! Neither were fazed by the oncoming Vale forwards producing some crunching tackles and a more than solid combined performance. Both had thrown their name into the ‘man of the match’ hat.

Still Fletcher pushed forward and added 4 more goals before the second break with Smith and Igiehon adding to their tallies for the day.

The third period started with the introduction of Hardegger and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact bagging his first within moments of the restart. This prompted a wave of Fletcher attacks and a fine Levy double including a backsided flick into the bottom corner.

With 10 left on the clock Fletcher goalkeeper Pralat was reintroduced as a centre forward. Having claimed before the game he was the greatest player ever he attempted to back this up and with his first touch curled the ball, Thierry Henry-esq, into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Que delirious celebrations from all!!

The Mersey Vale boys valiantly continued but Fletcher went into over drive with Dunne, Hardegger, Levy, Malcolm and Igiehon all scoring. A special mention of Smiths final goal must be made. From a Vale clearance he took one touch, looked up, and bent a delightful effort into the top corner from outside the area. Fantastic finish.

As the final whistle blew Fletcher were 19 goals to the good and had taken their win steak to 4 games and their first clean sheet. Handshakes all round and a couple of celebratory high fives were enjoyed by all.

The boys eagerness to learn and improve every Wednesday at training had been translated on to the pitch. Great effort by all and very much looking forward to next weekends game.

Under 7’s and 8’s & 8’s Colts reports.

Mavericks are a team of players who are Manchester City acadamy hopefuls and have smashed all comers this season. Today the 7’s beat them in one games and was narrowly beaten in the second but ran out aggregate winners of the two matches, with Will and Tyler scoring 2 each and Sam, Thomas and Korey weighing in with a goal apiece to help out.

The under 8’s played them on Saturday and drew 1 each in game one and were shaded on the second game. There was to be no smashing of the Fletcher Moss boys this weekend.photo-4
