At present we have a growing girls section in the club being coached by Joe Craig, who is, at present looking for new under 10’s recruits (he can be contacted for training or trials on 07740598115). Only players of top quality and of hard working nature need respond, this squad is a high standard. There is also a dire need of coaches to run teams too. Last season the under 11’s girls were very successful by attaining runners up in the league, at first attempt. Being double cup finalists and winning one and only narrowly missing out on the double.
Moss Lane Rovers 0 v 5 U10’s, an early onslaught from our girls put pay to any hope of a Moss Lane had of repeating their win over Rochdale Ladies the previous week.
A hat trick in the first 10 minutes from Miley Bennett underlined the Fletcher girls dominance and they continued to keep their opponents at arms length with some excellent passing football, dominant defending and a Tia Forrester masterclass in goalkeeping. Masie Baird added a 4th goal in the 15th minute with the cleanest of strikes, smashing the ball home from 15 yards. Half time arrived with a 4-0 score-line and with Moss Lane starting to grow into the game. Our girls decided in the second half to manage the game without changes to the formation. Tia continued her imperious goalkeeping and Violet, Georgiana and Amelia defending for their lives. Our 5th goal arrived 10 minutes into the second half, playmaker Indya finishing coolly into the top corner after a quick counter attack. The victory was well deserved as was the MOM award going to Tia Forrester for her excellent goalkeeping display. The success of the team has increased the players to permit us to build a second team. The club has since been able to start a ‘Wildcat’ centre, based at Barlow High school. Pat Johnson is the designated wildcats girls coach 07966089534 who can be contacted for training.
