The Fletcher Moss Soccer School is the foundation of the club. Taking in children aged from 3 to 11 years of age. The football training is carried out on Mersey Bank playing fields on a Saturday morning. The training sessions include the girls only ‘Wilcats’ sessions, managed by our ladies Frankie and Eva.
There are two training sessions scheduled each week:
- Saturday, 9.30 am until 10.30 am is for years 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
- Saturday 11.00 am to 12.00 noon is for Nursery, Reception & Year 1
The training sessions follow a natural pathway of development for the children and are intended to nurture their skills and abilities. Each week the soccer school will stage a different skills session, practicing; Passing, Shooting, Dribbling, ABC’s (agility, balance & coordination). Probably the most important skill taught is the skill of listening.
Fletcher Moss Rangers have been running a soccer school for 30+ years and have produced players such as Marcus Rashford, Ravel Morrison and Danny Welbeck to name but a few.
We are now running an ‘Elite’ player program. This is to build the best groups of players to be challenged at their best. There is always a level that players can perform at and we will always endevour to provide every player with that opportunity.
The Elite program has, over the last 5 seasons produced some wonderful young players, who are being courted by some of the top professional clubs in the north west. With 12 players being signed to professional academies during this period.
This season we are again discovering there are some tremendously good players at the soccer school to trial. Andrew Laylor is doing a tremendous job working with our select players.
The soccer school is for girls and boys of any ability aged from 3 to 11years of age. We have the reputation of being the most diverse football club in Manchester. The under 6’s are part of the soccer school and that normally runs on a Saturday morning on Mersey Bank playing fields, Waterford Ave. Didsbury. M20 2ZN. 9.30 till 12.00 noon. There is no need to book, no child of the correct age will be turned away, everyone welcome. We always advise that parents call us before leaving home to check if the pitches are playable, especially in the wet weather.
